Many would argue ‘82.
Brazil are my prediction to win the World Cup. Mostly in the hope that it doesn’t happen.
The reality is that it’s up for grabs this year.
The last truly great Brazilian side was 1970.... the 58 and 62 vintages were also decent. The 70 side coincided with colour TV occuring in the UK.... the first time that most people had seen the shirt. It did have an impact on the collective British psyche. For some reason Brazil then went in for a more prosaic European style.... it wasn't pretty. I saw them at Wembley in the mid 70's and the best bit was watching the warm up. By 82 the cavaliers were back in vogue and the 82 vintage promised much but failed to deliver, so the roundheads got back in favour. A couple more trophies were added by less than stellar teams playing limited football. This present side looks like it is trying to play with style and Neymar is always fun. The Swiss definitely got the running on VAR in opener, I suppose that FIFA HQ being in Switzerland was just coincidence. |
