So all kicks off tomorrow. Looking forward to watching some decent matches.

I have put money on Belgium and Germany to win the tournament. Always bet on Belgium, they have a talented squad but always under perform.

The home nation always seem to do ok, but I believe Russia are the lowest ranked country in the tournament?

Can't see past the ususal suspects, Germany, Brazil, Spain, and outside chance with France and Belgium.

I expect England to get to the last 16 with a last 8 possible.

I need to sort out some bets, and maybe a fantasy team if anyone is using Telegraph Fantasy Football.

Russia seem to be very down on their own chances, but then again their opening game is against Saudi Arabia. The human rights derby that one.

Agree. Virtually every team has pretty much the same squad as 4 years ago. Ours is the most changed. Changed, but still rubbish. Might make last 16, no further, unless we get a really weak team.

England have only won 6 knockout games since 1966. SIX. Depressing or what.

Paraguay 1986
Belgium 1990
Cameroon 1990
Spain 1996
Denmark 2002
Ecuador 2006

Be interesting to see the games in UHD as well. All on the iplayer but first come first serve basis.

Controversial, but I've no real interest in spending extra on UHD. Personally I find within 5 minutes I adjust to whatever source is available. Just me though.

I also don't have a UHD TV Smiley

Will watch it, but reasonably indifferent about the whole thing to be honest.

Suspect Russia will do better than expected, VAR presents a great opportunity for them.  Cheesy

Spain's coach got the Real Madrid gig yesterday, and suggestion is the Spanish FA might sack him as a result... certainly puts the nonsense about Sterling's tattoo into perspective as unhelpful pre-tournament events go.

Robbie Williams  Hmmm   Our political overlords are getting themselves Tied up in Nottz, over the alleged Burslem fan doing the opening ceremony.... presumably he'll be crooning Party Like a Russian  Smiley

I like it, we might be shit at football, but can still turn out an entertainer.

As for the football, I expect a succession of tedious matches marred by dodgy decisions based on VAR....

We'll go well. I like this England team.

Uruguay my dark horse. Money on Cavani golden boot.

Brazil or France to win it. Spain imploding on the eve of the tournament is unbelievable.

Germany will win in a final with Brazil. 1-0.

England will go out in the quarters probably on penalties after dominating the match and not finding the net.

That would be something of a triumph for Gareth.  Reality is that little has changed for England.  Maybe expectations are a bit more realistic.  But can't help thinking that most assume we'll pitch up and beat Tunisia.... we're ranked 12th by FIFA, Tunisia 21st, not that much in it, Iceland 22nd.  So a draw with Tunisia, beat Panama, and lose to Belgium, opens up not qualifying, as Tunisia can beat Panama and draw with Belgium. Belgium then need to beat Panama.

A repeat of the scoreline from 98 would be most welcome... if not the off field stuff
