There is a football forum I read that won’t work when I’m on WiFi but does work on my phone when using 4G.

It was working up until about a month ago, any techies know why this might be?

Nope, is that any wifi or just your home wifi?

Are you using anything unusual (VPN, etc)?

Where are you located, and is your phone a UK sim?

What's the site?

Seems to be just the home WiFi (Virgin).

Nothing unusual, just bog standard wifi.

Located in the UK, London. And the mobile is a UK sim (Virgin).

It’s www.onefootballforum.com

Any bright ideas appreciated.

Nope, says the server stopped responding. However if I turn my WiFi off and use 4G it does work. It’s really weird.

Does it work on another device connected to that network?

Nope, on my laptop it’s the same issue, just won’t connect.

It’s odd, only seems to have happened in the last couple of weeks or so.

I’m a bit of a technophobe so no idea what either of those mean. What’s the potential resolutions?

IP
As Sippo says, try rebooting the router, 1) to see if it clears any issue with internal stuff, 2) to see if it forces a new IP address. Before you try you can go to  https://www.whatismyip.com/ and check the public address, reboot then go there again and see if it has changed. No idea how virgin allocate IP addresses, so it may not change.

FYI: IP address in laymans terms is a 'number' that identifies your router to the internet. Every public IP address is unique. That's a bit simplistic, but you get the idea.

DNS:
In this case it will be used to lookup the domain (onefootballforum.co.uk) and turn it into an IP address so you can contact the server that hosts the forum. If that fails or returns the wrong one then you won't get to the site.

I think its very unlikely this is the case, especially after so long, mainly because DNS propogate changes quickly (24 hours) - - i.e. if the server changed IP address, the issue would have gone away by now.

I don't know if you use a Mac or PC, but if you have a pc can you open a command box (type cmd in search bar next to windows icon) and type

    ping www.onefootballforum.co.uk

you should see it resolve to the ip address, e.g. (but presumably yours will "time out")
Just interested in whether it resolves to 94.76.219.227

If it's not working on your laptop either it's an issue with either Virgin or your router. As above, reboot the router first.

It may be that the forum has blocked your (router's) IP address!

Thanks Batch and Jayo, I’ll try the old turn off and back on again trick on the box and see if that works!
