In the late 80s and early 90s we would have a Moonraker mascot at big games. Usually involved a rotund fan putting on a smock and waving a big rake with red and white balloons.

Blackburn away in the 1990 play offs was the last time I remember although Stigger Foley's thunderbolt goal and ticker tape was more memorable from the away end.

I don't remember the Moonraker bloke but loved the playoff game at Blackburn, fantastic strike by Stigger in front of about 5-6,000 travelling Town fans, great game, great celebrations for the away win.

My mate got arrested for dropping a cigarette butt and not picking it up at that game, the Police were bastards that day.

Erring towards Spartans. Something silly in my mind is saying maybe we should be called "The Locomotives" instead of "The Railwaymen" but I guess that all harks back to much of an industry that is pretty much, unfortunately gone. Should we revive our history (much like we revived the original club crest) through our nickname? Should we focus on something forward thinking? Possibly we should go for a good blend of past and present, but what could that be?

No one apart from the odd lazy journalist calls us the robins anyway.

Spot on.  This is my 28th season, and not once have I ever heard 'Come on the Robins' or similar in the stands.

A nickname should be a unique identifier.  You know who the Spireites are, who are the Monkey Hangers, the Black Cats, the Chairboys...the Brewers, Cobblers, Royals and Hornets.  But ask someone who the Robins are, and they won't have a clue.

Of course, Sunderland were The Rokerites, until they moved to the new ground,  when they had a fan consultation on the new name approx 1997.

Reading were always Biscuitmen, until Huntley and Palmers went, so the county connection and alliteration gave them the
present pointless moniker.

I think we should become Ocelots....
