My old man grew up in Pinehurst during the war and whilst my granddad was away in Burma avoiding my grandma my dad spent many nights sleeping in one of these with my grandma and his younger sister...

Towards the end of the war they also befriended a PoW and there was a story about it a few years back with a picture in the Advertiser of my dad and his mates in the 40's.

News reports said that searches will be ongoing, doesn't sound like an WWII era bomb to me...
