Without looking it up, I wonder on what basis we are above Mansfield given that we’ve both scored and conceded the same number.

I assume it’s either head to head (we beat them), or disciplinary record.

Maybe more wins....

No it wouldn’t - they’re playing chesterfield in the league on that date

Shame, that would have been handy...

it's head to head to separate teams if goals can't.

Quote

9.2 If two or more Clubs have the same number of points, goal difference and goals scored the highest placed Club shall be determined by the respective League records against each other, taking into account in order of precedence, points gained, goal difference and goals scored. If the above procedures do not separate the Clubs, then the Clubs concerned shall play off a deciding League Match or Matches under arrangements approved by the Board on a neutral ground.

premier league is different.

From a nerdy point of view it would be quite interesting to see it happen.

Say we lost 3-1 at home to Mansfield and we ended up finishing "dead level" in 8th and 9th, surely they wouldn't bother arranging a match?

I guess if we finished 6th and 7th under the same circumstances they would need to arrange one because it would affect who played who in the playoffs. But they'd need to do so pretty quickly to prevent it from delaying things.

Obviously if we finished 7th and 8th it would be a bloody big deal - but it would still have to happen at about 2 days' notice.

I know I need to get out more, but there are 5 inches of snow in the garden.

It's the 90 mins of football at the end of the drive that puts me off!
