Like it says, Motson retiring at the end of the season

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/sep/05/john-motson-football-commentator-ready-to-retire

End of an era, and deserves to be marked for sure, but perhaps gone on a bit too long past his peak?

Bit of a while yet before getting reflective.  I've got to get through Blowers' last Test starting tomorrow.

Never been the biggest fan of Motson, find him a bit sensationalist. That said, his voice has been the background to football matches throughout my lifetime, and there are plenty of memorable moments, not least "This is getting better and better and better" as Owen scored his hat-trick against Germany in Munich.

I will dearly miss Blowers.

Motson has always irritated me but appreciate his contribution to commentary over many years and recognise that he's significantly better than many others around.

Meh, he's no Barry Davies.

And if his retirement means an end to the annual Ronnie fucking Radford fest every 3rd Round day, then I welcome it.

Our recent managers like to go out of cups asap, gives them a full week to work on stuff before games... like Flitters had before Crawley and Barnet  Smiley

Barnet of course being hampered by losing a Boycott game to Wimbledon on Tuesday, their 4th defeat in a row.

Motson's knowledge of the game and history of players and teams is impressive..

I think Alan Green probably wishes he would retire.

Finally something I agree with him about. He clearly doesn't enjoy football - every time I listen to him he spends the whole fucking game moaning about something or other

I think my favourite Alan Green moment was when he got fed up of hearing from Leeds fans who called in to 606 to moan about the state of their club. Think it was the same day we got trounced by Wycombe in the FA Cup. Tony Adams had just arrived for them, and Sebastien Ruster played his final 8 minutes in a Town shirt.

By that argument around 90% of football supporters (and 99% of Town fans) clearly do not enjoy football....
