How do the annual travel insurance policies usually work ? I have an annual policy that runs until June, I've already booked flights & some accommodation for Northern Italy in July, which I guess is looking doubtful even this far out. If when I renew the policy I go with a different company, will they cover anything previously booked if it is cancelled last minute ? Or will I be claiming on the old policy ?

And if I book any more accommodation now, will that be covered as the virus is now known about which it wasnt when i booked the first lot

I know I could read the small print but can't be arsed right now....

if it runs until June, I'd be surprised if they pay out for holidays in July. I guess the hope is the current company could see it as continuation of in place policy - you are going to have to ring them..

I'd be even more surprised if a new insurer will even conver covid-19 related cancellations, accommodation or the flights

sorry, I hope I'm wrong

A lot of travel insurance companies are not taking on any new business at the moment - id act quickly if I were you

If you manage to get insurance now it might cover you for previous bookings (check first), but won’t for anything booked now

just looked at my travel insurance.

it doesn't cover pandemics.

still, I'm sure Ryanair will be reasonable...

Probably best to avoid Contagion - a film that would echo a lot of what we see play out right now!
