But do the Tories not have an overall majority in England?  Of the 650 parliamentary seats, 533 are English.  I can't find how many of those were won by the Tories online - but fairly sure it's 267 or over (which is what they would need to pass English-only legislation).

Labour 28 (W)  + 7 (S) = 35 so 227
Cons 8 (w) + 13 (S) = 21 so 296 (Speaker removed)

But I'm not sure I understand Evel really. Isn't it just that proposals that only affect England can get vetod by the comittee of English MPs. i.e. the legislation still has to go through commons so has to get majority backing, but can be later blocked.

Well, in my opinion anyway. I couldn't see how May wouldn't have ended up with a massive majority when she called the election either.

That's the problem when your only policy was, "Don't vote for him".

Then when you do try & announce something else you keep changing your mind.

As with you I thought that the only way the Tory's didn't get an increases majority was if they fucked up their campaign. Fortunately they did.

Most people were complaining that it was a bad thing that there was no effective opposition, well at least we have now, although it's a concern that the Government will so quickly jump into bed with what is effectively a political wing of a Terrorist organisation, albeit one that we generally have sided with. (a bit like the Mujahideen when the Russians invaded Afghanistan, they were OK then Wink )

Remember getting belittled by several on this thread for claiming a "hung parliament" outcome. In fact it was absurd to think it would happen because...you know...Tory landslide obvs  Clap Soapy Tit Wank

Presumably they haven't quite got the DUP agreement in place then.

I have heard they sent a draft to the palace earlier and the Queen said she was not going to read such bollocks out on air, apparently saying Strong and Stable over and over again for 25 minutes is not acceptable?

The Green Party have criticised Gove's recall as environment secretary (a decision that's right up there with the alliance with the terrorist-sympathising gaybashing bigots IMO) saying he is "entirely unfit for the role of environment secretary". Which begs the question of what he is fit for?

because the speech has to be written on goat's skin parchment paper, which takes a few days to dry - and the Tory negotiations with the DUP mean it cannot be ready in time.

Is this the Government hoping to free us from EU red tape?

Could they not just write it on Theresa May?
