Jimmy Allan.
I recall that that was a religious thing, and I really don’t think he should be knocked for that. Playing on Sundays was an innovation at the time, as it had never happened before.
In the early days, there had to be an opportunity for supporters to get in free on Sundays, and I can remember at university in Reading going to watch the Royals at Elm Park on a couple of occasions, and walking right round the outside of the ground trying to find the one (unsigned) gate where you could get in free.
Typical cheapskate students, we were!
Jimmy Allan was actually a pretty good ‘keeper.

Right up until the thug Johnson broke him, he was being scouted at the time for the Scotland squad, and rightly so.

1983 Swindon v Rochdale, Steve Johnson challenged Jimm and left his foot in and broke his arm and dislocated his shoulder, he never played again.

Quote
His career was ended in October 1983 when his left arm was shattered during a challenge with Rochdale player Steve Johnson.[2] The injury was so severe that Allan could never fully straighten the arm after the many operations he underwent.

It was a dire time, that was the first season I actually went to every game home and away, coincidentally it was the clubs lowest ever finish in the football league!

We played some shocking Flitcroft like football under Beamish that shite season.

I struggled to justify going then I was 19 and there were birds and booze as alternatives but so remember many crowds being around 2500-3000 and under 1900ish at home to Mansfield

Hey! I’ve just discovered that Flitcroft was sacked by Bolton during the summer.
They obviously woke up and smelled the shit.  I must admit that had completely passed me by.  Cheesy
