Champions - Charlton Promoted - Millwall, Sheff Utd (via play offs) (only 3 now  ) Play off teams - Sheff Utd, Peterborough, MKD. Oxford (pains me to say it) Relegated - AFC Wimbledon, Shrewsbury, Port Vale, Bury Town to finish 14th |

As things stand a strike force of Hylton, Obika is far from ideal. So you'd expect to see at least one to come in here. Go back to the Wilson PO season and we started off with Barn Door Billy up front....Wilson then made a couple of loans, Tope Obedeyi and Ben Hutchinson, to augment up front....Tope wasn't really a goalscorer and Ben just wasn't We had a decent defence marshalled by DV's dreamboat, so were hard to beat until Charlie Austin was plucked from Poole etc. Billy needed a new contract, which helped him to 26 league goals in pursuit of a lucrative pay day. Hopefully JO will realise that a decent season and he could well cash in. |

 Well there could be portents. In 56 the country lost a Tory toff PM, as it plunged into crisis. Back then, the Board picked the players and passed them on to the coach....no manager appointed. Our 24th place finish and re-election followed. I've in front of me a nice pristine Borough Press fixture list from 55/56, what was goodback then, it was Div 3 S. Coventry and Walsall the furthest flung norvern outposts. |
