I recall this subject has been done to death in the past but can't find anything...

Anyway - me and the better half are hoping to cram in a 3-night break in August, in the UK. Was thinking Devon. Love Brixham/Dartmouth/Dartmoor area but never really explored the North Devon coast.

Any recommendations? We'd be looking for either a cottage or a nice b and b/boutique hotel sort of thing, near enough to a nice little town, decent beers and grub, bits and pieces to do.

Myself, the wife and the boy stayed with family in Churston Ferrers last year.. close to Torquay, Brixham, Teignmouth and Dawlish.

Such a great part of the world. Even though it was November and fucking chucking it down, it was still really nice!

Went on holiday to Dawlish 2-3 times a year every year as a kid so know it really well. Tempted to stick with what I know, but then think we should probably broaden (slightly!) our horizons this time...

I don't think you can go wrong wherever you go down there..

I was down that way, back in about 1999, solstice, when a little girl contracted  something nasty on the beach at Dawlish Warren and died....horrible.  The beach had an EU  blue clearance, but the best guess was dog shit.

One of the reasons for Remain, was that EU legislation improved our sewage disposal...you could argue that we should be capable of sorting that ourselves, but sadly, crap used to be discharged straight into the sea....one of the reasons why from a very tender age, I'd go nowhere near swimming in the sea at most UK coastal places, and be very picky about where my kids went.....certainly nowhere near a beach with dogs on it.

If you want to visit some inland bits, go to Hay Tor, Brentor and Launceston (take a walk around the gorge).

I remember going there with our little one a few (or more) years ago.

Weather was terrible so ended up going to a lot of the indoor play areas, one of which was "The Big Sheep".

Son enjoyed it, and he was just small enough that I had to take him on all the slides, so Dad enjoyed it too Smiley

Scary thing is we are off to Dublin for a few days in a few weeks time, only slides we will be doing is after I fall on my arse trying to keep up with him in the drinking stakes, bloody students

Much more to see and do in south Devon in my opinion. If the weather is good the beaches around woolacombe and croyde are lovely though.
