Stumbled on this today. A message to the fans from then Chairman Ken Chapman in March 1991 almost exactly 30 years ago.

Makes for interesting reading for those who can remember that far back (and perhaps for those who cant). Im sure this was handed out to fans on the turnstyles at one of the home games but I dont remember which game

The bits about the stadium are interesting. The "comdemned" Shrivenham road stand carried on for another 3 seasons in the same form before being replaced in 1994.

Ossie Ardiles left the club for Newcastle about a week after this was released

I think Hounsell is trying to include an image attachment with his post but is exceeding the 1MB (1000kb) limit.

Compress or die Hounsell. Compress. Or die.  Cheesy

That was my first season.  The sense of injustice was raw back then after what had happened the previous summer.  Difficult time for the club...and difficult on the pitch as well.  I'd be fascinated to read the piece when you manage to get it up on the site.

The external link should work. Still trying to embed the images though. Should be small enough now (thank for the tip!)

Glad you sorted it Hounsell Smiley

Great read. I was only young at the time but was already very "invested" in Town.

It's incredible really. In 1991, Chapman could see the vision of what football clubs in the future needed to succeed. Although realising that vision is much more difficult, he had great foresight, especially regarding inclusive and community elements. The massive contrast is how transparent he appears and makes some effort to put down a framework to work towards those goals.

How many of us would cry out for someone with a similar kind of vision even now. One that isn't purely for their own benefit. It shows how far the club really still is behind and still has a long way to go.

The most difficult thing to accept is that it is quite unlikely that Town will never get close to realising a vision like that.

I wonder what the next owner is going to find about how the club has been run during Power’s reign.

Seems nothing has changed much from 30 years ago. Shifty financials and a decaying ground, any player of value being flogged off and the supporters expecting ‘jam tomorrow’.

If only football was about the 90 minutes on the pitch.
