RIP Bert Denyer

It is with great sadness that a former player of ours from the 1920's, Bert Denyer, passed away in his Swindon care home just before 8pm this evening. My thoughts are with his family during this festive period. My partner works in the care home and looked after him, she is terribly upset tonight. If anyone here knows anything about Bert as a player I'd be interested to know more as Google not returning much information on him.

The former was the son of the latter. In a cruel twist it is Bertie Denyer Junior birthday today.

He would have been about 100 if he was in the team from about 16 years of age? Say from 1929?

Must have been the younger then as I note the elder was born in 1893, which would make him 122..!

She believes he was 97 based on his say so. Will find out officially over next few days.

Bertie was a a character alright...rather than running a pub after finishing Bert ran a pub whilst playing....The Running Horse on Wootton Bassett Road, unfortunately, illegal betting activity led to a loss of licence, and so a job as barman at the High Street Club.

This Bert played a handful of games after the War, and was son of the legendary Bertie.

The original Bertie got my nod for Hall of Fame for a fine display of wingcraft when we won 2-0 at Old Trafford in 1930.
