Why does everything in my garden - but particularly the grass - stop growing in late June each year?  Picks up again in mid/late August.  It's like there are two distinct growing seasons each year.  Is it simply down to lower rainfall?

Just a guess, but maybe they're putting their resources toward reproduction than actually growing?

* Edit Actually, no. That wouldn't make sense if it's the (mown) grass.
