Probably the answer wanted, but technically there is a desert in a bit of Spain.  

The lakes question may well be Finland.

Is there? Well that makes things interesting then. Africa is obvious, Australasia is mostly desert, North America must have bits of Texas/Nevada that count, Antartica is technically all desert I believe, Asia has Mongolia...so is there one in South America?
