I think we need a new quiz-master.

I'm still waiting for the next question to come up.....think we could easily do a 5-5 draw this season.

Youngest Swindon side (ie with the lowest aggregate age)?

Bert's Babes (early 1960s) vs Cooper's Kids (now).  I'd imagine the winner from this one will be from one of these two eras.

The youngest team is Head's from 1962 v Reading. The next youngest also come from that era but Cooper's are the next. The oldest squad come from just after the war. The link has more.

Wasn't the gate thingy related to the brown paper envelopes the players received?  We under reported cash taken at the turnstiles and used that to pay players cash in hand, avoiding taxation for both parties.  Hence why both the FA and Inland Revenue came after us once the woman who tried to invest got given short shrift by the board.  She tipped off the People and the summer of 1990 was born.

Or maybe I've tied together lots of hazy memories badly?

edit: a quick trawl does indeed back-up the gate receipts being one of the reasons for Hillier receiving a prison sentence.

I think your memory is a bit hazy. I thought it was established that it was Hillier's own money in the brown envelopes apart from the money Lou won on betting on us to lose. The whistleblower was none other than Slave Trader Smart. There was a lady who I used to know who got the blame but it was nothing to do with her.

The betting money was to cover bonuses.  The IR case was brought against individuals for not reporting accurate sales and using the funds to avoid taxation, according to reports on their sentences - Lou was found not guilty:

Bert's Babes (early 1960s) vs Cooper's Kids (now).  I'd imagine the winner from this one will be from one of these two eras.

Most of Bert's early sides had Sammy Burton or Maurice Owen in, which bumped up the average age, now Maurice played 44 games in 61/62....but Sammy was starting to be phased out a bit...

Of the 2 games Maurice missed that season, neither contained Sammy, for the first in January at Dean Court the average age was 20.72, but for the second at Elm Park, I'll offer this as the youngest ever STFC side...

O' Hara 17
Wollen 18
Trollope 18
Smart 19
Woodruff 21
Chamberlain 26
Ernie Hunt 18
Jack Smith 25
Bill Atkins 22
Jackson 20

Average age 20.18

By way of contrast Saturday's was 21.81

The following season either of Maurice Owen or Ken McPherson played centre half evey game so upped the average as the youngsters got a bit older.

One for the stattos.

When's the last time we had 3 players each score 15+ in a season?

Potentially could happen this season

I have a feeling it was Allison, Finney and Horlock in 95/96 div 2 title season.

As if potentially going top next Saturday was not enough to get excited about, it's also my birthday.  So, of course, I had to look up our record on November 29th to get an idea of how we might get on.

Incredibly, in the 25 seasons I have been a supporter, this game will be only the 4th occasion that we have had a league game on that day.  And we have yet to win.

On this Day: November 29th

The 3-3 draw vs Peterborough in 1992 was televised.  I watched it at college as the resident Swindon fan and embarrassed myself in front of everyone when Nicky Hammond ballsed up his call for one of their goals.  I know a lot on here remember it.

The 2-0 defeat up at Hartlepool in 2003 was a game I was at.  One of the coldest I can remember.  Ever.  It was a London Reds away weekend...and the night out in Newcastle afterwards almost made up for it.  I met Bob's Orange that day who had driven down from Edinburgh.

The other game was a 2-1 defeat away at Walsall in 2008, which I have no memory of.

So we can make a little history next week and chalk up our first November 29th league win since 1986 - 2-0 at home to Carlisle, since you ask.  Fingers crossed for something along the lines of the result we recorded 90 years to the day beforehand - a 5-0 home win vs Northampton.
