For anyone keen on free money, Costa Rica remain bafflingly 9/2 to beat England in the final game on PP.

Costa fucking Rica are better than us. That's a low point. Might as well try some fringe players, no use in plodding on with proven failures or those not likely to play in Euro 2016 (Gerrard), use the next game for experience for the next campaign.

There isn't a coach that really stands out as ready/available for England at this moment in time.

Which is a part of a bigger problem with English football.

Tony Pulis. Now before everyone laughs;

Firstly, he is practically English having spent pretty much all his playing and managerial career here.

Secondly, his management and playing style is what you need to win games at major tournaments. A strong and tight defence that doesn't make mistakes. He'd get the best out of our players and make them very hard to beat.

Of course, the downside is watching them play would be really depressing.

Wouldn't happen, but the other option would be bringing someone like Pulis in as a coach to help sort out specific issues.

Martin O'Neill provides the best part of ITVs analysis yet.

Come on, guys.

Any new manager can't make our central defenders improve to WC standard.

Until we produce defenders who are happy to receive the ball in tight situations and not revert to type at the slightest sign of danger by lumping it we will remain stuck as perennial fuckwits.

We seem able to produce decent midfielders and forwards every now and again, yet, as a footballing nation, we don't seem to get beyond the Butcher/Terry type of bulldog defenders.

No new manager is going to change that

I think lumping it forward would be an improvement for this lot, it'll mean they at least got to the ball rather than standing about and watching the opposition striker put it in the net.

You could be right there.

Of course, the razzmatazz of the PL will soon erase the shitness from the memory

Opposite, think we need to stop trying to make our defenders ' all playing centre halfs' if they can do it naturally, great...

If they can't just let them defend - we need blood and guts, everything on the line, Tony Adams defenders....not poncy ball players

I still have nightmares about Tony Adams style defenders after Euro 88, when he was systematically dismantled by Marco van Basten.

Sol Campbell and Rio Ferdinand of relatively recent vintage is the sort of thing we need again....it's just they don't come along very often
