Oh is it Reg?  I just stumbled over it when searching for thetownend.com on google.  I was struggling to get into the site this morning for some reason.

Coyne, for me, is an STFC hero, he was of slight build with a ludicrous mullet, but had class.  Macari picked him up from non league, after he'd failed to make it with ManUre, think he was his first signing.

The  84/85 side was in transition,  and we'd seen some crap, Coyne provided a bit of hope...which came to fruition the following record breaking season, when he scored som e important goals in a poor start, and in the LC run that got the season on a roll.

Then after an injury spell in the middle came back in to score crucial goals like the Crewe winner for 102 points.

The following season he played less, as Lou started to build up his forward line of big fellas and Chalkie......but  nevertheless scored key goals playing more as a wide midfield player.....notably the winner at Wigan in the first PO's when coming back from 2 down and the first v Pikeys in the final.

A personal favourite being the volleyed equaliser at Trashton Gate...the final game of the season that stopped the Shitty getting into the PO's.

This of course is what allowed the Pikeys in, for which they've never thanked us.

Once up to the second tier, lou felt we needed bigger stronger types and so Coyney  only started a few games.

He was last heard of as a security man at Manchester Airport.

Cheers Reg, I always wondered if he was actually any good or if, as a youngster, I was won over by his hair.  My other favourite at the time was Jesper Olsen, who also had lovely hair.

Don't really judge footballers by their hair nowadays.

Ps I ain't gay or owt.
