They knew Ranger was going to be playing since Thursday, but wanted to keep it under wraps to prevent Peterborough from being aware. Sam undid this (rightly or wrongly is another argument) by announcing it before teams were announced, thus giving Peterborough time to make changes and prepare for the different threat.
In no way does it justify this action, but I can understand the emotion. I'll imagine all will be back to normal by the end of the month anyway.

Sam didn't have to keep quiet for the 2 days previous and cost himself a decent exclusive story for the paper.
As mentioned by SY I'd expect this ban to last a few days max once Power calms down and sees sense.
