Connecting sky to a second TV

I am looking at a magic eye. One question, how do you connect the coaxial from the sky box to the second TV. Sky + hd has two dish cables in. Do I use a tv aerial lead from the rf connection on the sky box?

It depends on the Sky HD box you have. But essentially yes, by TV aerial co-ax.

On slightly older HD boxes there are two rf outs, you use rf 2 to connect to the second TV. There is a hidden menu that you need to enable power on rf 2. This enables the 9v power that powers the magic eye.

note: Magic eyes are a bit sensitive to a few things. Firstly if you are passing the rf through wall-plates sometimes these isoloate the 9v out meaning the magic eye doesn't work (and potential knacker the wall plate), if you use an amplifier on the rf output side it needs to be able to pass the 9v through.

On the brand spanking new Sky HD box they have removed rf. BUT..you can buy an io adapter to reinstate it. Never used one myself, not sure if they work exactly the same as the integral rf2. You'd need to google around.

The alternative is a video sender. The 2.4Ghz ones I've used were fairly crap and interference prone. Maybe the 5 Ghz are better, expensive though.

Video sender. But they are hit and miss depending on your house/distance required/interefernce.

A wired connection will always work better. For instance if you put a microwave on when using a sender it goes to pot. I have one and they are a waste of time unless your two tv's are close and even then it aint very good in my experience.

If you have a spare feed to your dish just buy the cable from amazon or e-bay. That will come with the connectors fitted and simply screw it into the dish at one and the same to a sky box-freesat box at the other. Cheap and the best way.

My kids have Hd freesat in their rooms and the other 2 feeds go into the Sky box in the lounge. Works well.
You could also consider one of these newish streaming boxes that will connect to wifi and are cheap(i don't have one so am not that clued up on them though)

I understood it that the 2.4ghz were the same frequency as WiFi networks, and that a 5.8ghz would get around the interference problem. My sky box is in the lounge, about 15ft (directly through the ceiling) to my bedroom tv. I'll have a look at the streaming boxes you mention.

How many feeds does your dish have and how many are in use? Is your dish easy enough to reach?
If this option is available to you go for this first above other choices.
