Need to buy a brand new windows 7 laptop preferably with 6gb RAM, looking around the £350 mark (any further discount a bonus  Smiley ). Finding some on ebay but need some further suggestions.

Ta.

What are you intending to use it for?

You could probably get away with a Chromebook (circa 200 quid) for a young kid, doesn't have PowerPoint but comes with various Google imitations installed which are pretty much identical unless you use advanced features. The battery also lasts ages.

Damn, harder than it looks. Everyone seems to be bundling Windows 8 now Sad

e.g.

Is there any reason not to get windows 8 for this purpose?

Only that in the thread title you said Windows 7!

I think Windows 8 was a bit poop originally for laptops/desktops. They tried to impose their more touch screen friendly 'metro' interface too much, it was a bit far removed from traditional Windows for most users.

But if I understand it correctly Windows 8.1 has brought back the start menu and things are no longer so bad.

Not used Windows 8 myself so can't really offer any actual opinion.

10 year old's are using PowerPoint now?

Go for Windows 8, will be fine. Most people just moan as it looks different. I think its great.

Loads of decent laptops around the £350 or less mark. Have a look an Amazon, Dabs and eBuyer.

Also, if you don't like Windows 8 the licenses are backwards compatible so you can downgrade legitimately.
