Hi, sorry if this has been covered, I did search but couldn't find anything relevant.

The problem on my Macbook is that as soon as I try to plug anything into either USB port the screen freezes. I can move the cursor but clicking has no effect, even to shut down. I have to hold down the on button to shut down. After starting up again Safari, Firefox etc take a few minutes to sort themselves out.  I recently had a new hard drive fitted in Cheltenham. I can't take it back to the shop, too far. The shop retrieved and transferred the data from the old, defective hard drive. I also transferred all my data to an external drive, using a USB port, so the ports have been working since the new hard drive was
fitted.

Any suggestions?
