Back to back hundreds, both when needed desperately by the team. He'll be delighted with that and so he should be.

My only worry is that thinking back to 2005 edition Ian Bell makes me worried that Steve Smith and Phil Hughes might be quite good after all in 2017.

Out to Steve Smith, that's faintly embarrassing. Decent ball though, and we'll let him off after 109

After seeing Smith bowl, I think Swanny could get a few wickets on this pitch.

Where's Mexico Red?

Matt Prior has undone an excellent 2yrs in the last 3 innings. What a spineless cunt. Get your head down you fucking drip.

Never thought I'd see the day Ian Bell was carrying England in The Ashes.

Haven't seen too much of the day except up until Bell got his ton...Bresnan for Finn, I'm happy with...I like Bresnan and think he'll come good. Now is the time for him to show it...If England can get past 300 with Anderson still in, they should be looking at 350+! From what I've heard 400 is about par, but I'd back our attack to get a 1st innings lead....still all to play for!

Come on England!!!

Good assessment. Anderson just needs to hang round and be a nuisance in the morning. Easier said than done! I would have stuck with Finn but given the muddle we're in, an extra batsman may pay dividends.

You'd think they've picked Bresnan exactly for this type of situation...if he doesn't bat well, and bowls a load of tosh, then he hasn't done himself justice...fingers crossed he gets it right! Like you say Frigby easier said than done!

For those of us following the game online, what's the consensus about which is the best site?  I am alternating between TMS Commentary on the BBC and OBO (Over By Over) on the Guardian.  Comments on both are very entertaining.

I have been trying to find the facility on the Telegraph site that I remember from previous Ashes series where there is a real-time graph being plotted of win probabilities (%), which was a fantastic way to plot the 'ebb & flow'.  I can't find it this time around though.

The Lords groundsman is genuinely called Mike Hunt. Excellent.
