I've had an HTC Desire for the last 2 years, but my contract ends in a couple of weeks.  I was torn between the Iphone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 but Orange were offering me  rubbish deals.  I'm now in a position where I can leave them and am now swaying to the HTC One.  What network are you on? Did you get a pretty good monthly deal?
Im on Voda, 37quid a month, free phone, unlimited calls and text and 1gb of data, although i think they have cocked up and given me 2gb.

That's a lot of money! I pay £7.50, free phone, more minutes, texts and MBs than I can use in a month.

I'm with NMH - I opted against an upgrade tgis time round, and dropped my monthly contract from £36 to £7.50. I only have a phone so the kids can ask for lifts.

I'll be putting a custom rom onto my phone as soon as the contract expires and going sim only or on to Giff Gaff.

Should keep it good for at least another 12 months and I'll save a small fortune on what I'm paying currently.

Don't rule out going sim only!

You could keep your HTC desire and load a custom rom to make it nice and speedy (such as http://en.miui.com/) again, or else buy a phone outright.

It may be "last years hardware" but have you considered something like the Google Nexus 4 (or even an iphone 4S?):

Giff Gaff and Tesco mobile both do some cracking sim only deals

Doh, that'll teach me to read the whole thread properly before replying.

+1 to this. Has saved me a small fortune over the long run.

Vodafone kept badgering me to upgrade and given the fact that they reduced my contract by £5 a month and offered the S4 for free, I felt obliged to take it up.

Some nice little features in the latest Android and it looks like I will finally get a bluetooth handsfree facility that actually works for when I'm in the car.

You want to be careful if you use your phone for tethering. I had a real problem finding a tariff, especially sim only, that allowed tethering and gave you more than 1Gb of data. Most of them don't publicise that tethering is blocked and hide it in the small print. But it did force me on to Three which has worked out well.
