Friend of mine swears by his home treadmill so much so that i'm tempted to get one.

You don't need a gym to get good exercise. In fact all you need is the Brian Harvey exercise and that will get you into shape in no time:

Let your car run in 1st or 2nd gear and jog ahead of it. It sets a good pace and is incredibly motivational.

I would advise against eating too many jacket potatoes before you do this exercise though.
