That's what I was thinking, just didn't know the wording!

These links should help, but normally removing the network in full, then scanning and connecting to it solves the problem, but as you can't do that, try below.

My understanding is you're connected to the router but have no internet access yes? (I'm presuming under connections and sharing centre, you have a blue line from your pc to the router, but a red X between the router and the internet.)

What security do you have on the computer?

This might sound silly, but if the above is the state you're in, I've seen this numerous times and the way I some how seem to to solve this ridiculous problem is by deleting the network and trying to connect again from scratch.

Then, bizarrely, it's normally a case of clicking "home" when the box pops up, upon first connecting, that asks whether it's home, work or public. I can't recall the number of times I've seen internet access denied by ignoring/missing that stupid box.

How do i get the above up? Nothing i have done has worked so far and i cannot get the above up for some reason?
I've deleted the network etc but for some reason cannot get that screen to show.
It also has bt open zone on the laptop which i have to keep deleting too but it keeps coming back.could that be part of the problem?

Given this as much time as i'm prepared to. I've have gone over and over trying different processes to rid me of this problem and tried all suggestions made on here. Thanks all who offered help but I'm admitting defeat now and my request has now changed.

I only have 2 ethernet outputs from my router and need 3 without having to keep changing them over when using different devices.
Could anyone reccomend a splitting device or do they effect the quality of signal etc?

Get a switch, something like this:

Plug a single cable from the switch to your router, you then have 6 ethernet sockets ,  the 5 ports on the switch, and the spare port on the router.

Be aware that the switch is powered so will need a free power socket, and that it is roughly the same size as the average router.

Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center -> Manage wireless networks -> Select the wireless network you're trying to connect to and select 'Remove'.

The next time you try to connect to that network, it should prompt you to select whether it's a home, work or public network like in Barry's previous image. Am I right in saying that you're not prompted even after you've removed the network from the list?

And to answer the question - openzone - presumably you are seeing this as an available wireless network? If so this means you or a near neighbour have BT as you internet provider and are signed up to the openzone program. This means a bit of whoevers bandwith is reserved for other openzone customers to use (more useful in a town centre than a residential street in suburbia). If the laptop keeps connecting to this you will not have internet access when you are connected, but you should be redirected to an "openzone login" page on your web browser.

The box you are looking for usually appears after connecting to a network first time. Not sure why it isn't.

If you go into the Network and Sharing Center when connected wirelessly, what does it say under 'View your active networks'?

If it's connected, you should be able to click on where the above picture says 'Home network' to change it if necessary.

The page i get is a slightly different to the one you show but is also very similar .
It doesn't say 'view your active networks' nor does it give me the option to click on the house(its not there)
It says 'unidentified network(Public network)' where it would be

Sounds like it's not connecting to the correct wifi network then.

If you go back to the 'Manage wireless network' screen, make sure that the preferred network is at the top of the list by selecting it and clicking 'Move up'.

It should then always connect to your preferred network.

Either way, it sounds like the fact that it is showing up as an unidentified network is the reason you aren't getting full access
