Thanks Costanza.  I think I remember him, and later, plus Bob Edwards, Harry Lunn, Garth Hudson, Peart, Onslow, George Hunt, Jimmy Bain, and a few others.  Smiley

I remember Harry Lunn used to have a shop in Commercial Road, quite near the market...I was never sure what he actually sold...but in those post war days of proper austerity probably not a lot.

A mate showed me an early 50's ration book last night, that had belonged to his grandparents....the authorities were very pleased to announce in 1951, that the Empire had managed to provide us with sufficient sugar, that there was now a small surplus which could be used to raise some $ (US dollars).

Much to the fore on the ration book, was Tate and Lyle's Mr Cube.....who brandishing his sword of free enterprise, and shield to ward off the threats of Attlee's nationalisation.

First Town game for me was a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace in March 1988, just turned 6.  Hooked since that day.  First away game was Chelsea away in Feb 1989, we lost 3-2.

My first game came before we moved into the area (Faringdon) - we went with the family we knew in town.
I'd have to guess something like 1960/1.

Stood on Shrivvy Road stand SB end. For years I always thought I'd seen us beat Bristle Shitty [topical note ahoy !] 4-3
but I've looked up all the records and can find no hint of anything remotely like that (!)

Is that worse than remembering nothing about your first game ?!  No

Very, very similar to me albeit 10 years earlier.

First game Nov '98 2-0 win vs Palace- caught the bug
First away game we lost by 1 goal in West London too; 0-1 vs Fulham in October '99.

Edit: Age 6 also.

I've uploaded my entire collection of STFC footage to YouTube, so if I've got any video of your first game, it will be on there now!  There are now 1725 videos available on the YT channel and via the site match pages.

Great work! In the absence of any football today, I'm watching Swindon vs Walsall from 1988 - Style of play is so so different from todays side.

That game was shite....it was around the time that Macari was often not around on match days, so the rumour mill about his liking for a punt, went into overdrive....there were even the usual mongs who thought he should be sacked, as back to back promotions weren't good enough for them.

First Town game was home to Hull in Jan 1966. Beat them 3-1.
I sat in the top of the old Shrivvy Road stand, and thought, wow, what a fantastic football ground !

First away game v Fulham in Oct 1970. Lost 1-0 in the League Cup.
