21st January 1989
Crystal Palace 2-1 Swindon Town

I started off with an away game at Selhurst Park. I'm dying to see footage of this game because we took the lead in the first half through Steve Foley right in front of all the Palace fans... which for some reason my old man decided to position himself, me and my mate. There's got to be footage of three random people celebrating amongst the home fans when Foley tapped home. In other news, I hate Mark Bright.

Was this the game we shit all over them and the ref gave a penatly for handball against the Fridge despite there being a bloody great ball mark on his shirt as the weather was so shite. Palace always used to flike it against us in those days.

Remember satin scarves, very tacky

And it was compulsory they be worn around the wrist.

I certainly remember the weather being shit! As for the game I've little recollection other than Stigger's tap in shortly before half-time. Not bad for a 9-year old!

Still got mine, the tassels are a bit tatty from flying the scarf out of the car window up and down the country. It's now kept in my STFC things to keep box  Grin

I found my Membership card from 78/79 the other day.
I think it was 50p for the season, and meant that you paid less to get in the Town End.

West Ham v Swindown 93/94 played out to a boring 0-0 draw.

In 93/94 that was an enthralling well earned point!

Barnsley at home in 1998/1999. I was only 5 at the time so that's all I know about it.

Charlie Griffin scored his first goal for Town. As someone who saw him play a good few times for Chippenham, it was a good moment.

Home to Chester 17th March 1978 1-1 Kammy scored .

Just found my program from the game it cost 15 p and a quick flick through reveals you could buy a satin scarf for  85p or a woollen one for 1.30
Just noticed this was on a Friday night, any idea why that would have been?

My first game was a 1-0 home defeat to Bristol City, early in September 1990.

http://swindon-town-fc.co.uk/MatchCentre.asp?MatchID=19910103

I went on my own.  I was 17 and had passed my driving test a couple of weeks before.  Got my Dad to lend me his car keys.  It would have been one of the first trips I made solo, so even the epic journey to the ground from West Swindon was a bit of an adventure.

Even though I'd not been to a game - I didn't know anyone who went regularly -  I'd been 'following' the club for a while, watching out for results in the paper etc.  And that summer, the promotion/financial irregularities/demotion/reinstatement to Division 2 saga (and the fact that it put STFC in the local and national news on a daily basis) got me properly fired up.  By the time I set foot on the Stratton Bank for the first time, I think I had been hooked for a while.

I remember a few things about the game.  The pitch looked very green, and Junior Bent got their winner after a run down one of the wings about 10 minutes from the end.  I bought a match programme that game, as I have every game I've been to since.  And Julian Wilson (ex-BBC horseracing correspondent and Town fan) had a piece in there titled something along the lines of 'Would you let your daughter marry a Bristol City fan?'  Both my brothers, then aged 11 & 7, started coming along with me a month or two later.  We're all still there.
