Hello folks. I have a problem with windows media player. Whenever I open it, it uses upwards of 90% cpu which is very annoying.

Any clues as to why this is happening, and what I can do to stop it happening? I only uses it for music, videos are all vlc.

Does it take forever to star when you double click on a media file?
Then do this:
Start > Control Panel > Sound > Playback Tab > Double-click
"Speakers/Headphones" > Enhancements Tab > Check "Disable System Effects"
and now it starts right up!

WTF are the System Effects and why would they slow down the playing of
media!?

And why Oh Why are these not disabled by default?
