Obviously the coaching staff know what sort of a player he is but he does seem to be scoring regularly at Oxford as well as the spell at Supermarine where he bagged 12 goals in 14 games. That's probably because the fans keep hounding him.
Smith is OK. His first touch is horrendous but he's chipped in with a few 'strikers' goals and he's also played some lovely through balls (ie, Storeys goal v Sheff Utd)
He's a work in progress though. He puts a shift in, he will come good. Unless the fans shatter his confidence completely.

Just had a quick check and no he hasn't got anywhere near 30, he scored 12 for Supermarine and 8 for Pox City so he has scored 20 this season.

I think Cooper's got a cheek to blame the fans for getting on Smith's back.
After every game he bangs on about the forwards (i.e Smith) not retaining the ball well enough.
Then coming out with the comment that if we had Madine up front we would have beaten Carlisle.
Seems like its him who's more likely to be denting his confidence.

Probably not constructive, but we dont see what happens behind the scenes + he starts every game so he obviously has some faith in him.
Booing him and cheering him when he gets subbed probably hits him harder.
