There is only one Duke and he is not from Marlborough.

Some good positive comments from Grant after his signing. Quite different to what some posters seem to have suggested about him, Wellens and the club. I don't think I saw one negative post about Grant at all during the slightly drawn out process and everyone who has watched him regularly can see exactly what he brings to the team.

https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/18628402.swindon-deal-no-brainer-grant/

Quote
Staying at Swindon was a ‘no-brainer’ says Anthony Grant after signing a new deal.

The 33-year-old midfielder signed a new one-year contract with the club yesterday and he insists he was never going to be anywhere else next season.

Speaking exclusively to the Adver, he said: “I was always intending to stay but I had to sort a few things back home.

There’s no rush to everything.

Everyone assumed just because the contract’s there I was going to sign straight away but not everybody does that.

I spoke to the gaffer and me and him get on well.

When I spoke to him, he said on the radio that I promised I would sign. So I don’t know why all the fans thought I was going.

“I’ve always been honest with him. It’s taken its time but now it’s done.”

Some of the main reasons behind Grant extending his stay at the County Ground was down to the management team, the playing squad and the fan base.

He added: “It was always a no-brainer.

There were other clubs interested but I’ll be honest, I didn’t entertain them.

Everyone thought I was going to Blackpool. People were messaging me, but like I said, I’m a man of my word and I told Richie I was signing here and in the end it got done.

“All the fans can be happy, they can stop messaging me on Instagram and Twitter now.”

And when it comes to next season, Grant is making sure he doesn’t get complacent.

“I want to try and carry on my form into next season and help all the other boys in the squad,” he said.

“There are young boys who have signed new contracts and will need help blending in and there are players that look up to me so I need to set an example and play to the best of my ability.”

“Anything’s possible in football. You can never aim too high.”

Good stuff👍

Also interested and quite surprised to see that Taylor Curran has signed a 3 year contract extension. RW can clearly see something in him...

Thats not exactly true though is it.

We have had 57 games shown live on TV over the yearsm we have won 25, drawn 20 and lost 30 of them. So 33% win ratio on live TV according to the superb Swindon-Town-FC.co.uk.

We have only lost twice int he last 9 live TV matches, one of those the awful play off final game v PNE and have won 3 and drawn 2 of the last 5 live games.

I think that misnomer comes from a run of 17 games in the mid late 90's/ early 00's when we only won 3 games and lost 11 of that run.

But since around 2005 that has swapped over almost the other way with several more wins than defeats in the 25+ games since then, certainly in the last 5 years.

Strangely the Duke of Marlborough... originally John Churchill didn't seem to have much to do with Marlborough, that was the fiefdom of the Marquess of Ailesbury, who lived in Spurs House, Savernake.

It should be noted that a Duke is rated higher than a Marquess.

If my memory serves me correctly, the day we beat Southend at Roots Hall by a Fabien Robert goal to nil, Jack Payne was in the Southend starting line up alongside our very own Noel Hunt. Southend being managed at the time by Phil Brown.

A fun little factoid if I've remembered that right..

You certainly have. Was as that one - almost 5 years ago now, where did that time go...another bloody hot day. Timlin played for them as well...

Yea was the hottest day of that year I think! Timlin, Of course! Forgot about him. Payne was standing in the goal line at a corner and I remember thinking to myself how tiny he was compared to everyone else.

Sounds like Conroy is injured from latest Talk of the Town. The area of the team that I'm concerned about is centre back. There will be more double game weeks this season and I'm not convinced that Baudry and Fryers will be able to do this without getting injured. Being blunt I don't think Broadbent is League 1 standard and Curran is probably not ready yet. Grant might end up playing quite a few games at centre back.

Or at least as a very deep DM. Mind you, still some time yet. See what 'appens!

Conroy is making excellent progress week by week.
Needs to take his time before full tackling and impact on his knee can be fully approved.
Hopefully will be ready for the start of the season.
