So my Acer has finally given up the ghost.

Want something to replace it, but not looking to spend more than £400. Seen a few i5 spec'd deals about for around £350, but also seen a lot of comments that first gen i3 and i5's aren't much kop?

I have played around with several i3 and i5 laptops and they are really good, much much faster in the real world than Athlons and Core2Duos, even the first gen ones, they have much faster memory handling and some of them auto overclock too.

I would recommend you get a core i3/i5 if the budget stretches to one Sam.

The Acer had an Athlon and wasn't noticeably slow, so an i3 or i5 definitely sounds the way to go.

Sainsburys had a cracking deal on an i5 the other day (£299) but it sold out pretty quickly.

Oh and the i5 is vastly superior to the i3's, the i3's are quick but the i5 is very quick in applications.

An i5 compared to an Athlon is noticibly faster opening applications and office files and also quicker in flash applications due to the memory handling of the i5, an i5 for under £300 is a massive deal, very very cheap indeed.

This one seems alright, although it's an i3 not an i5 you were looking for.

I've been looking for a new laptop too.

I have found this one:
http://h40059.www4.hp.com/uk/homelaptops/product.php?id=A9A80EA&experience=direct

Plus you can get 15% cashback from here, but it ends today.

Works out at just over £400.

That's easily fixable. Mine won't even boot.
