Cant connect to internet wired or wireless

Hi guys

Friends PC had really bad malware on it - I have since removed this but I am now not able to connect to the net either wired or wirless.

I have done ipconfig and it says media is disconnected.
It finds wireless network, tries to connect then says its not in range.
However I am on the laptop next to it and it is connecting fine.

Any ideas?

have you tried turning it off and back on again?

Have you removed the wireless network and readded? Are you on win7?

Yes, Ive also removed the wireless adapter and reinstalled it.
Its Windows XP

start -> run

type "cmd" in the box without the quotes and hit enter.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
