My son has a problem with his handset. Tries to make calls but it comes up with 'Emergency Calls Only'. Tried taking the battery out, trying the SIM in another phone (it works) and a working SIM in his phone (same problem). Any (relevant) suggestions?

Give the provider a ring to make sure the IMEI hasn't been wrongly blacklisted. The IMEI is tied to the phone itself.

Bit of a longshot mind.  More likely a phone issue.

I assume it was previously working until now?

Have you also tried a full factory reset, after backing it up of course *2767*3855# will do that for you.

I have an old Tocca sat in the cupboard, hated the phone horrible feel to it.

The phone worked for ages and then stopped working.

Checked with the provider. They say that it is not blacklisted but a handset issue.

Haven't tried a factory reset. What do I have to backup ? All the boy's numbers are on the SIM.

Didn't have anything on the phone (worth saving) so just did the factory reset - Still the same. Handset icon with a red line through it showing, and when I try to make a call it still says 'Emergency calls only'

You could try updating the firmware.

Use the PC software that came with the phone. Plug it in and let it do its stuff.

If you don't have the CD, you can download it here.

I know technology moves fast but I think it's pretty disgraceful that they won't support one of their products that's over two years old
