Anyone know of any freeware music editing software?  Don't want to do anything fancy just fade and cut a few tracks.

Audacity is pretty good, the only downside is that you can't save the edited file as .mp3 - only .wav. You can on the full paid up version though.

So I use Super (erightsoft) to convert.

Yeah. Not for a while, but used too a lot.

It's pretty much the standard free open source one. Or was.

I'm sure it used to be able to do mp3's too, has that changed?

Last time I used it you could import mp3's to edit, but not save the edited version back as an mp3, only as a wav file - if that makes sense!

I just downloaded the most recent version. All you need is the lame encoder dll, when you try and export as an mp3 it actually gives you a download link.

I don't think there is a paid version of Audacity is there? It's all completely free.

Download the latest beta version - although if you're on windows 7 you have to anyway.

Yeah there's a mp3 encoder plug-in so that must be right.  Will give it a bash though, thanks chaps.

This has restarted my interest in recording my ode to bacon.
