Paul Ince did it just off the title. PDC and Ince are bigger names though and that does make a difference. I don’t think any champ or prem fans could name our manager.

I'll throw Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet into that mix too. While not Prem it was a quick rise to Leeds and Poyet obviously went onto the Prem managing Sunderland. Had the "whatever went on" at Brighton not happened, I think he would've taken them to the Prem at that time. We could easily (although not Town) add Lampard and Gerrard into the "advancing quicker than is organic" category.

To be fair, I’m surprised we even attracted McDonald and Cooper given the ‘dream team’ we had at the helm!

Ughhh, fucking delete this.

I didn’t realise he received such a hefty sentence (handed 8 years in 2017) so he will no doubt be enjoying his stretch! I wonder whether Jed has paid him a visit to plot which club will be their next victim upon his release...

Yeah thats true, I expect Liverpool were paying him quite well with little expectation to get results at that level, from very cushy job to a very uncushy job.

Hmm, not sure about that. I'd imagine Liverpool very definitely expected him to achieve against the targets he was set, just that the "results" would be in terms of players coming through into the first team group, rather than in individual matches. Certainly much more high profile public pressure as a first team manager though

Pity. I was hoping Robinson would get it to put that lot up the road into meltdown mode.

Yes I mean the pressure to get results in the league where huge amounts of money can be gained and lost with 1 poor season, look at Luke Williams in his season with us. The relegation season according to Power cost us about £3m in revenue.

That is enough to cripple a club in our division for several years.

If at Liverpool he failed to bring through 1 or 2 prospects to being close to the first team then his job would not be on the line, also at Liverpool he has the cushion of the rest of the coaching staff to use and have their thoughts. I doubt that cirlce will be as big at Blackpool as it was at Liverpool with their wealth of experience in backroom staff.

Yes I know they are only at the end of a phone if he needs their advice but they are not at training sessions watching players or at games seeing how the players perform which the staff at Liverpool would be if needed.

I am sure hes a great youth coach/manager but its a massive step up from Premier league U23 football to managing league clubs, I would think the list of failures far far outweighs the successes, just look at Swindon....Luke Williams, Kevin macDonald and Maurice malpas (yes he had 1 year at Motherwell but was essentially an U21 coach) then you look at others like Dermot Drummy, who had great careers coaching youngsters but struggled with the pressures of league management.

I still think the pressure of managing Blackpool will be way more than managing Liverpool U23s.

Massive learning curve for him and a culture shock too, still it may well work for him, fair play to Blackpool for taking the gamble and not just going for a tried and tested "jobbing" manager like Robinson.

Yeah, good point, well made. Although I think your Liverpool staff list is out of date, still has Critchely as U18s manager Smiley

Cheesy

I think you cannot underestimate the Jewell effect with Wellens, having him there available and watching games to ask for help is invaluable.

No wonder the pitch looked so crowded in the warm up for the pre season friendly with them a few years back.

Think you're spot on there. Equally I think Wellens has alluded to the fact that both Hunt and Wright aren't just there to hand out the bibs and pick up the cones
