Sparky gone from Stoke, not exactly a shock I know..

It's not a shock as such but considering how long Pulis got there, through some quite simply poor football, yet hard to beat team playing to their means. Hughes didn't make them World beaters, but I believe he gave Stke their highest league finish and changed the style of football and philosophy at Stoke. This is a very make or break decision for the Potters. If their next appointment is uninspiring or just the wrong fit then Stoke could put their Prem status at risk. Unless Hughes has been wanting out for a while? Could actually see him getting the Manchester United job when it comes up.

You could be the only person on the planet... aside from Hughes's immediate family to take that view.

However Wales are still without a gaffer I believe...

I don't think Sparky will ever be good enough to take on the United job, however the Wales job is a good fit.

If I was Welsh I would be less than inspired by Osian Roberts, I expect he will be given one game as caretaker to see how he performs, would be the cheap option as his wages is already accounted for.

Wales assistant manager under Coleman, never played professional level or coached at anything other than U16/U17/U19 etc until Coleman appointed him assistant.

Like Carlos Pereira, Andres Villas Boas, Jose Mourinho, Gerard Houllier, Arsene Wenger and Arrigo Sacchi among others then? Sacchi put it best "I didn't realise you needed to have once been a horse to be a jockey". Once we get rid of the ridiculous obsession in this country that only ex-players can become managers, and that they should be catapulted into management roles without serving their time developing a working knowledge of how to coach, we might actually start to make some progress in international football.

As a Welshman I'd be more than happy with Roberts. Continuity from the Coleman regime & would rule out the horrible possibility of that little twat Bellamy in charge.

On another note it is one year to the day since this gem:

I'm not sure that Luke showed that you have to be an ex player of a certain standard to be a manager, but he did seem to be uniquely clueless about the game...

My comment was based not upon his experience as a footballer merely a statement that I doubt many people will have heard of him as a footballer.

Yeah I got that. But you're entirely right, most people will write him off because he's not a "name" they've heard of. Which was what set me off Smiley
