I can understand why many would think Wellens would go to Salford, as there is quite clearly a strong connection there.

The reality is though that we were promoted by default and have not started well. Is he really as attractive a proposition to others that we think he is?

We do play good football which is something that Salford fans grumbled they did not see under Alexander. Wellens however wouldn't have his own team or players, but would have significant backing. There is a real risk he could end up back on the scrap heap if he didn't deliver quickly.

I think we're still at a stage where Wellens still has plenty of credit in the game as a managerial prospect.

L2 owners are probably still attracted in recruiting managers who have a track record in getting out of the division. Therefore, they'd be daft to not focus on Paul Cook (unless there's an ambition thing where he's not interested)... or David Flitcroft.

He has spoken to Total Swindon and said something along the lines of "I am staying here".

We can start being nice to him again now.

Wellens is now 2/1 joint favourite for the Salford job. It time to get worried, are the rumours true he was up there last Friday ?

If he goes, he goes, not going to get too upset about something I can do nowt about. Plus if Power can extract some decent money from them as Compo might keep the wolves from the door for a few more weeks.

Hope he doesn't mind you and as Scholes got a decent win in his game in charge hope they decide to keep it in house to save a few bob.

Absolutely this, if he does choose them above us I put that down 99% down to Covid. Closer to home, a team that could fund his ambitions without the need for attendance income. Ex team mates.

I won't judge though until it happens, but if he goes then fair play to him and thanks for last season.

If Wellens does go, and it would be gutting (hard to compare but our best manager in 26 years), it would surely be Hunt-Wright stepping up. Not going to recruit in this climate.
