Bristol City fans have a past of successfully lobbying against something they don't like:

In the mid-00s they kicked-off so much about a freshly launched kit and badge (player modelling it etc.) that they had to go back to the drawing board. New badge was scrapped, new kit redesign was still bad.

Last year they flapped so wildly about Nathan Thompson potentially signing for them that Johnson had to abandon any interest.

You could say the club could be praised for listening but it's the aggressive nature of the complaints.

Holden wont get it if the noises get louder.
Thank god we don't have influence over decisions otherwise we certainly wouldn't have Wellens in charge and would probably have some journeyman like Holloway in charge as he's a 'name'.

Absolutely this. I was by no means in favour of Wellens being appointed and almost everybody said at the time he seemed to be the "cheap option" by Power.

I was wrong and I think we all were pretty much to a man, I don't remember a single post in favour of his appointment at the time, very happy to have been proved wrong.

Could well have had Curle, Hollowead or even worse in charge, another version of Flitcroft maybe.

There was certainly some classic TEF wrong stuff at the time, even from some of the normally more sensible posters.... the best being LL who didn't fancy someone's suggestion of Duncan Ferguson, not because he was on a fat wedge at Everton, but because he was the offspring of noted socialist SAF  Smiley

I had this to say.....

If it is to be Wellens, then I'll give him a chance, unlike those who have written him off already.

When he took over Oldham they did well for a while, but just ran out of steam.  His stay was a bit like Iffy's at Town in 05/06, inherited a very dodgy start, improved matters, but with 4 down not by quite enough.

I also felt at the time as we were sliding his experience of a dogfight at Oldham, even though unsuccesful could be useful in keeping us up.....

I used to work with a Bristol City ‚fan‘ (only went to the bigger games) He got in a terrible strop when people at work did not class the LDV Vans trophy as a major trophy & he claimed their ‚rightful place‘ was the top division. Terribly entitled bunch

My take was....
Wellens, now that doesn't inspire me with any confidence, but we don't know, he may work, he may not, we will see.

I HOPED it would be someone better but he may fit here, horses for courses etc, some managers fit clubs, some clubs fit managers....he may fit perfectly.

This one made me chuckle.
It will have gone in as favourite because someone put £5 on it. If Richie Welles’s is our new manager I’ll eat my own dick

I was massively underwhelmed by the appointment.   I now thank Wellens for helping me fall back in love with football after the Preston game.  We have a star as boss, best appointment since Hoddle.

Pretty much exactly the same for me.

The more I think about it, the more I think he will do well.

Well, I've seen enough to make me think it isn't as bad an appointment as on face value. I'm feeling a bit better about it.

You'd better have this one right, Power.

Christ.

I've forgiven Power for the failures of Flitcroft and Brown. I won't be doing the same if Wellens fails.

Still, he deserves a chance and all that. Maybe it'll click for him here.

Yep pretty much.

Note devious misspell to avoid the contractual chop. Clever stuff.

Audrey, take note.  Wink

I think we can safely say that no one was "ecstatic" at the appointment of RW and more "subdued" potentially mixed with a smidge of hope that it would come good. Certainly don't remember anyone throwing a huge strop about it either. It was just either negative meh or positive meh.

So far seems pretty good and this season will give an indicator of his abilities at the next step proper (not counting Oldham, incredible basket case and certainly not enough time, let alone resource (they had none) to turn it around). Even in this rather unique environment of uncertainty, I'm looking forward to the coming season with Wellens & Co.
