I was talking to a mate last night who was reminiscing about the period around the turn of the decade 79/80, when we put 8 on Bury beat Arsenal, and progressed in the FA to set up a game with Spurs. What I recall was losing at home to Exeter of all clubs, 2-3 having been 2-1 up. We'd never lost at the CG to Exeter, in my time and haven't done since in a league fixture.
Apart from the last month of the season that was still probably my favourite season in all of my 42 years of following the Town, great memories. |

And even in that magical spell up to those 2 defeats we were still, for the most part, shite away from home. We had a great team that season and should have gone up. |

As happens often with STFC it was a case of so near yet so far. We've even had one under the present regime. |
