I was talking to a mate last night who was reminiscing about the period around the turn of the decade 79/80, when we put 8 on Bury beat Arsenal, and progressed in the FA to set up a game with Spurs.  What I recall was losing at home to Exeter of all clubs, 2-3 having been 2-1 up.  We'd never lost at the CG to Exeter, in my time and haven't done since in a league fixture.
Apart from the last month of the season that was still probably my favourite season in all of my 42 years of following the Town, great memories.

Then we lost to Spurs and Wolves in the space of a couple of weeks and went on a downward slide for the next 5 or 6 years. And even in that magical spell up to those 2 defeats we were still, for the most part, shite away from home. We had a great team that season and should have gone up.

As happens often with STFC it was a case of so near yet so far. We've even had one under the present regime.

Bruno Ribeiro has left Port Vale.

I have hopes that Vale might do a second half of season slump.

You would think that sacking a manager after 11 games might reflect poorly on whoever made the appointment...

He probably kept referring to Wales as part of England like every other American.

Bob Bradley, gone.

His defensive squad just conceded too many PKs and his offence came up short.

Notts may just about be saved by Newport and Cheltnumb going down, or possibly Accrington, but it may be close.  Possibly a bit too early yet to think about the make up of Div 4 for next season, and our potential adversaries therein.
