My internet is really fucking slow. I just went on google, and it auto-detected my location as new milton, some 90-odd miles away from where I actually am. I'm assuming this has something to do with the IP address? Is this likely to be linked to my super-slow web speeds, and what can be done to rectify this situaiton??

I would start by rebooting your router (and modem if with Virgin) and see how it after that.

It is IP address based. It won't be the reason for your slow internet.

Most location searches based on your IP are always miles off. Its why you get those dating banner adverts advertising girls in Beccles and Staines etc.

Is the Internet only slow at certain times of day, e.g. after 4pm and before midnight, at weekends etc?
Do you download a fair amount as you may have hit your fair usage policy which will also slow you down at peak times.....stated above, some ISP's are slower than others, is this a new speed problem or has it been around for a while with you?

You live in Haydon Wick don't you? If so, you'll be on the Blunsdon exchange which is ridiculously congested.

With BT I think, though not sure about what limits we've got as I don't organise it. Could be something to do with the exchange though.

Funnily enough the internet picked up immeasurably about an hour after posting that last night. Back to shit again now though. Ho-hum.

Sounds like heavy demand at the exchange then, but still I am with BT here and get 12-14mb all day every day only every occassionally dropping to 6mb at real heavy usage times, worth reporting if it carries on, thats unnaceptible.

Could try updating the driver, or the network card might be on it's way out.
