It does sound like it mate, the invertors dont last forever, Si Pie just recently replaced his, not many pennies at all either, less than £15.

30 quid on ebay, already ordered

The Tosh I have with the non working screen, has had a new one fitted not so long ago so I'm taking a chance on the inverter board jj?
got the screen off, could my problem be the invertor, although the screen does light up white

Usually if the inverter is fucked there is nothing on the screen but the only real way of testing it is with replacement of known good parts.

Replacing a laptop screen is a piece of piss and takes me about 30 mins tops, even someone with little know how can do it easily in an hour with pretty much no problems.

I'll let you know when the inverter arrives then jj

Oh and ordered a new keyboard for the lappie, hopefully without the cats puke

I had to replace my screen in the end. Inverter only worked for so long so it was obviously never faulty.

Screen was £20 on ebay (2nd hand) but the Dell laptop of seven and a half years lives on.

Have to say I agree wholeheartedly JJ, far too fiddley. Can handle a memory upgrade or replacement hdd, but that's about it

There's no fixing my memory I'm afraid Paul, sieve like

Just to explain, after all that changing screen inverter nonsense, turns out it was a bad 2gb stick of memory, discovered this when sticking the said 2gb stick in another lappie as a cheap upgrade for someone and the bastard thing wouldn't boot
