What a great idea, wipe out their debt so that they can rack up another huge one over the next five years. How many of the performers at live 8 did this to gain publicity ? How many give of them spend time working with charities when the cameras and the eyes of the worlds media are not on them? Not Fecking many thats a fact.
Its about time that we started to sort out our own problems, inner city slums, the homeless, drug issues. i know that im going to get loads of abuse and quite frankly i dont give a fuck but i agree that sterilisation and re-education in africa would be more use than a pop concert. If you cant feed 1 child why keep producing more ?

Sorry but Geldof and others missed an ideal opportunity to change the way we deal with Africa.  More emphasis should be put upon the african Governments that are crippling their own continent.  For years now we have been donating to charities to help out and it seems we are getting nowhere.  Stop the civil wars, stop the corruption then we can make strides in making poverty history.  Instead Geldof put on a concert that has only allowed thousands of people to say "we were there", which at the end of the day isn't really gonna help that much.

Snoop Dogg was fantastic though.

SY, it waas sort of ironic, but there is an element of seriousness.  African men fucking around spreads AIDs, not debt, starvation, or Western civilisation.

Article in the NOTW yesterday - "This women lives int he poorest place in the world.  She has had to bury all of her 17 children".

If us lot had 17 kids each we'd have a serious fecking problem.  Education is what is needed on every level.  Starting with the greedy cunts who run poor as fuck countries but lead the life of riley in their mansions in Monaco.

Well said swindon away. Charity begins at home. We should sort the mess out in this country before worrying about others.

Even if the debt was cancelled, so what? Those African governments will still be corrupt as fuck and there will still be as many starving.

I wish Bono, Martin and that twat Geldof would just stop badgering us. Yes we are all now "aware" of whats going on. So fucking what, nothings gunna change.

I now await the barrage of abuse.

nah, i agree with that MR. like foggy said aswell, most of these bands are only doing it for publicity, i doubt they give a crap about poverty they just want to be seen taking part in the event coz they know there's such a big audience.

we've been 'aware' of the situation in africa now for years but nothing will change. what really took the piss is when bill fucking gates came on stage (in philly?) & started giving everyone a lecture. for christ sake your the richest man in the world, if you really care send them some of your money!

It was in London, Bob Geldof introduced him and said he gives $5billion to charities every year.

This cynicism is unbelievable, I can't prove either way that the artists who took part did it for their own publicity but that's not really the issue, is it?

Of course the artists who took part will benefit, but that's not the point is it.  It would be completely unavoidable for some of the artists on show to not benefit as a result of this.

Why is it so hard to take notice of this event for the right reasons, rather than being cynical about peoples motives.  The sheer size of the event means that some artists will be exposed to poeple who may not have been familliar with them, and wil maybe buy an album by that artist.

The only way for them not to benefit would be by taking all their records of the shelves, but why should they do that?

If any of us do something good for whatever cause - whether it be helping a mate move house, or helping a charity, then we would no doubt experience some sort of appriciation - maybe a few beeers from the mate, maybe some true gratitude from the people involved with the charity.  Should that mean we shouldn't help?

The fact is that the people performing all over the world were asked to be there because  people recognise them, and it provides a platform to spread awareness throughout the world.

So what if Robbie or Miss Dynamite sell a few albums because people liked what they saw - as long as people listened to the the real issue and point of the event then it has been a success.

Although I doubt anyone would buy a miss dynamite album after seeing her, she was awful.

Anyone know why Michael Stipe paints his face blue?  Does it mean anything, or is it just because he's a bender?

Exactly, Madonna even admitted in a interview that she wouldn't go to Africa so what's the point in that?

I understand what your saying Sonicyouth but if Blair spent as much time as he did bumming the rest of the World, namely Bush, on trying to sort this country out we'd be a lot better off.

Personally i feel pretty safe in my part of Swindon walking about at night etc. But there are other parts i proberley wouldn't. Everyday i would pick up a paper and read "more immigrants flood in" "immigrant runs over small child and gets 8 months" "war hereos beaten and robbed". Personally though i'm still very young i'm  bricking it about every grown old when i sit down and think about it. This country is going to the rot pot and i proberley wont be the only one in Britian saying this that when i get a bit of money together i would seriously think about emmigrating.
