If you were planning a 3-4 week trip to SA and surrounding countries, where would you go and what would you do?

It's a great trip. Start in Cape town and work along the coast. Take a look at this for an idea of the route and things on the way. ( http://www.bazbus.com/) Also, if you dive, go to Tofo and Vilanculos in Mozambique. Avoid Maputo. Botswana's good too.

The Garden Route around Cape Town is lovely.
I did the bungee jump at Bloukrans for my 30th birthday. That was pretty memorable!

Did the Safari thing in Kenya which was pretty amazing, & would imagine that SA would be similar, but with neo Nazi's of dutch descent running it

Kenya was amazing - would definitely recommend! South Africa I can imagine would be great provided you plan it properly. If you need some tips, STA Travel's website is pretty good http://www.statravel.co.uk/

I did that too! Was the world's highest at that time (1999, I think). Just thinking about it even now almost puts me in a daze. Did you have 'bungee grin' for the next week?

Been to S.A. about 9-10 times - as long as you are sensible it is safer than walking through Penhill in the dark !!
Avoid Jo'berg as there really is naff all there - Durban has great beaches, Cape Town has a brilliant night life....
If you can get there go to Cape Agulhas - where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic - kinda cool.....

I've only given it a quick glance but this seems to be exactly the kind of trip that i'm into. Thanks for the link. Mozambique is also on my list as i do dive. I've heard Tiger shark there diving can be pretty cool and im still on the hunt for my first Whale shark. Its somewhere iv'e never been to and it looks like it could be a pretty funky trip. South America will be done next (hopefully) but thats also fucked up and dangerous. Where do you suggest? The bungee will be done, guaranteed!

i did the bazbus when i did SA too. alot safer way to travel and takes you all along the garden route and jump on and off as you will. j'berg is too dodgy and a bit shit so get out of there as soon as possible. i did safari in kruger park then garden route including swaziland which is amazing shark cage dive outside cape town was amazing go to oodshorn (can't remember the name) and ride an ostrich! so many awesome places on the garden route so you'll need 4 weeks minimum. i did 4 weeks but would've prefered longer
