I know I can go onto random sites recommended by google, but I prefer to ask the good people of the TEF.
I bought a Bravia on Saturday and since the change from my old TV (an old CRT one) the DVD is too dark to watch. The set up (in terms of scart leads etc) in the back is the same as the old one. For info, I have my DVD player and Xbox plugged into a four scart adapter thing.
Oh, and I know Si Pie will want to know this, I solved my problems of not being able to watch clips on BBC...basically I had too much shitola on my laptop...it now has less and works.
Cheers in advance for all helpful answers, humourous ones, and the downright abuses.

Have you tried changing the brightness & contrast settings on the TV?

Well, that would work, but then be too bright when I watch TV. I realise this is a solution, but I'd rather just sort it properly. I also realise I may have been wooshed, but I'm drinking.

Ah yes, I didn't see you were using an adaptor.
If you use separate scart sockets on the back of the TV you can set different brightness & contrast settings for each one (or you should be able to).

Cool, I'll look into that. Edit: Have done, cheers Sam, good job.

If its a new tv why are you using the old scart system anyway? HDMI connections are superior for dvd and Xbox.

Old DVD player without HDMI perhaps?

I'll try that in a bit. If its a new tv why are you using the old scart system anyway? HDMI connections are superior for dvd and Xbox.
Don't know what HDMI is...I can certainly try this from my Xbox (and maybe dvd player). Presumably I just an HDMI lead from the same place I can get a scart lead?

That's a bit of a sweeping statement. Seen some TVs where SCART looked better than the HDMI connection

Can't do that. I suspect my dvd player may be a bit shite. Also, there appears to be many types of HDMI cables, I suspect price is a good guide of which one I should get, but again, any help gratefully received. Finally, if I should need to replace my dvd player, which do people recommend (I need one that records)? (Again, I know I can google this stuff, but the opinion of the learned members of the TEF is if greater value to me). Cheers in advance again.

The geeks recommend Panasonic, so I bought an LG (only because I got a good deal on it). Does what it says on the tin. Avoid Sony and Samsung's latest offerings. Apparently.
