Later on today I shall be handing in my notice after 10 years at Nationwide. Its not the same company I joined. I'm setting up my own company. Its scary but I can't just sit there pulling in a wage when I hate every minute. I've got a hefty mortgage, 3 kids, STFC and a beer gut to support so its got to wok out.

Its a bit obscure but if anyone wants a statistician / MI guy primarily HR then PM me. Even more obscure but if someone would like any service profit chain analysis done then I'm your man. Red Deer Analytics Ltd will be the name.

If anyone is a graphic designer / printer then pm me as I need to get my logo / stationery up to date including a master PowerPoint prsentation.  I've got a website guy lined up.

Apologies fior contaminating this space but I'm drunk and a little bit emotional right now. Tomorrow promises to be fun.

Jeez - good luck fella.

Your story sounds much like mine only I am not brave enough to do what you are doing.

 Beers

Fucking well done chalky. You've made the right choice. More people should do what you've just done.

Brave or stupid will remain to be seen. Basically, if I'm not earning in 3 months I'm fucked. Its shit or bust and launching now is not ideal but hey ho. If it goes tits up would you like to adopt one of my children?

Fair play to you, Chalkies.  I'm at NW (been there a bit longer), but it is not a nice place to work.  Immediate team is still cool, but other than that..........

Only thing keeping me there are 2 small kids (3 and 3 months), otherwise I would have fucked off long ago and gone contracting.

Hope that it goes well - echoing the sentiments of others, you are a brave soul - best of luck.

I did a similar(ish) thing when I packed up a relatively decent job in my 30's to go back to full time education. As you say it is financially precarious to do (Especially in the current climate) but ultimately it was the best thing I've ever done. I didn't do it for a better wage, or career progression, more because the thought of going into my old job every morning was seriously beginning to fuck with my head!

Good luck to you. I hope it works out.

All the best Chalkie.

I have an ambition to work for myself, but at the moment I don't even have a clue what I want to do or what service I could offer so I wouldn't exactly make a lot (or any) money Smiley

Have you been doing 'private' work on the side to build a client base, or is it just handing in your notice then seeing what happens? Hope its not the latter, as with those comittments it's a huge risk if you haven't.

Fair play to you, sounds scary and exciting and I hope it works out.

Remember: You can't spell Analytics without Anal.
Perhaps that could be your company slogan.
