http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/e/everton/8798656.stmRejected a verbal offer that would have almost doubled his wages and the PL have ruled he can now leave the club on a free because the offer wasn't written down. I think the rule is if the player is under-24 and you offer him in writing a contract on equal, or better terms, the club is then entitled to compensation if the player decides not to sign. Everton can, and most probably will, appeal. Can't decide if he's being sensible as he's supposedly being chased by a few clubs so can probably get a decent signing on fee or whether this is just another example of a young player being a greedy little bastard.

That must stitch up Plymouth Argyle with the loss of percentages and add-ons.

I think we should wait to see where he ends up and how much he's earning before deciding if he's being greedy. He might go somewhere where he's guaranteed a first team spot or something.
As for Everton not getting any money, it's their own fault. Rules are rules.

Sounds like the club were just fucking him around without actually giving him a proper deal.

See Joe Ledley has gone to Celtic on a free, thus robbing Cardiff of compensation.
Stoke wanted him but would have had to pay compensation, but because he's going to a foreign country that particular FIFA reg doesn't apply. So Cardiff is now in England according to FIFA.
Cardiff wanted the Stoke move because they're skint again....Celtic boost their midfield ranks, so all good.

I thought it was all to do with which Football Association the club would register the player with? As Cardiff play in the English Football Leagues they fall under the English jurisdiction.

Well how come that scummer Purse, was freed up to play in the Cup Final a couple of years back by the Welsh FA? Let's hope Cardiff go bust...

So it appears greedy selfish cunt was spot on after all... According to the ruling, had Everton submitted a written offer of a new contract rather than a verbal one before the May deadline then the club would have been entitled to compensation - believe to be about £4m - because Gosling is under the age of 24. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/8844933.stm

Er, not really, that's Everton's own fault for not getting the admin right, he's gone to a club where he'll probably play a lot more and probably on a similar wage with a nice signing on fee to boot. Sounds sensible to me.

I was thinking more about the fact that Plymouth lose out on any compo and i'm sure he must've been offered much better money to turn down a stable, well-run club like Everton for those dicks on Tyneside.
