Ok, had the iPhone a while now but have only just started using Cydia thanks to the chaps on the iPhone thread.

As per thread title, what are the must haves and has anyone found any hidden gems?

There's so many out there. Its completely upto you what you want really. Cydia is mainly used for mods. Install0us is for apps.

You need to install an app from Cydia called AppSync.

Other apps from Cydia I would recommend are:
Cycorder (if you have a 3G)
SBSettings
Categories
Backgrounder
ProSwitcher (works with Backgrounder)
FontSwap
Winterboard
5 Icon Dock / InfiniDock
LockInfo

I really don't understand why you need to sync your apps with itunes anyway as you can get them all on your phone.

You don't need it then. It just adds video recording capablilty, which the 3GS already has.

Won't turn on or won't wake from sleep mode? Mine did a large update this morning, froze the phone a little when I first tried to wake it from sleep mode but gave it a few minutes and all was ok then.
