Yuck hate tumble dryers I don't own one!! Make everything creasy & ming
Got 5 loads of washing dry on the line today
God I'm old Sad
Ha ha  Grin Really can't beat the satisfaction of getting a few loads of washing dry in a day.

Although the knowledge that i'll spend the rest of my life folding the other halfs boxers and sorting out his socks is a tad depressing. But it does give me a power of a sort over him,if he annoys me i don't put any away for him and he ends up with none.

Been to Avebury today. Nice walk around the stones, pub lunch and then over to the Long Barrow. Didn't even realise the Long Barrow was there, practically just across the road from Silbury Hill.

Anyway, I'm obviously getting old but I enjoyed it! First time I've been there since, ooh about 30 years.

West Kennet long barrow is lovely, a bit off the beaten track but a good walk and a real piece of history.

It's something like 5500 years old, its hard to wrap the head around something that old. I was pleasantly surprised you can go in to the first few chambers too.

When I last went there a load of hippies were stood on top of the barrow chanting and waving their arms about. Reminded me a bit of the town end after a few beers !

The Neolithic, is a lifetime fascination for me....the way I get my head around it is to consider, the Paleolithic, some of the remains and they're rare from this period, can be 250-300,000 years old.

Occasionally stuff turns up in places like the floor of the North Sea, tools from when Britain was connected to Europe, and people hunted mammoths etc. Then you had the Mesolithic...again hunter gatherers, but Britain distinctly an island....mesolithic footprints can be found in the ooze of the Bristol Channel. This was probably 10,000 years ago.

So...it means to me that the Neolithic is modern....farmers, builders of monuments and builders of culture.  Stable isotopic tooth analysis of strontium in a 9000 year old skeleton in Cheddar cave found DNA similar to someone who still lives there today....I daresay the same link could be found between Wiltshiremen then and today.

Jesus Christ you are a pedant arent you.

OK it should have said its a nice stroll up a hill to get to it from the nearest car-park/bus stop, that is approx 3⁄4 mile SW of West Kennet, along footpath off A4 (approx distance taken from the English Heritage web site).

Better?

Wayland Smithy near Ashbury is also a very good example a Neolithic long barrow, I used to visit there often when I lived near there many many years ago.

Larwood we are getting old! Smiley

Jonathans jungle roadshow visited CLC kids club today! 35 kids sitting quietly for 2 whole hours engrossed in his chat & mesmorised by all the bugs & reptiles!
The guys bloody brilliant at what he does can recommend him highly enough - he's gonna be appearing on a wildlife programme on BBC one soon too? Something with a number in the title???

Thanks Batch - think it was you that suggested/recommended him?!
